A student who paid £650 (N321,000) for an iPhone has cried out after he got a box filled with concrete instead. Newcastle University student Omar wants to warn and stop many more people from falling victim to the scam. According to him, he thought he had found a bargain when he discovered a new iPhone X for sale online priced at £650. Little did he realise that he was about to become the victim of a fraudster who used concrete putty to make the empty box feel heavier. Using the boot sale app Shpock, Omar arranged for the phone to be brought to his accommodation in central Newcastle on April 3 by a man called 'Jamie A'. Omar handed over the £650 in cash and 'Jamie A' wrote out a receipt with an address in Sunderland. Omar said: 'Once I gave him the money he kind of almost ran away. Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari Monday said he avoided bringing up President Donald Trump’s alleged vulgar remarks about African countries when the two presidents today at the White House because he was not sure his American counterpart truly made comment. Buhari, the first sub-Saharan Africa president to meet Trump since he was sworn in January 2017, is currently in the US for bilateral talks on the invitation of the American president. “I am not sure about the validity or whether that allegation against the President was true or not, so the best thing to do for me is to keep quiet,” Buhari said during a joint press conference with Trump at the Rose Garden at the White House. Nigeria has taken delivery of some military gunships following the arrival of the Antonov aircraft from Russia. The airlift cargo aircraft bearing the 2 additional brand new Mi-35M helicopter gunships touched down at the Nigerian Air Force NAF Base in Makurdi, Benue state at exactly 12.20pm. Ferrari’s Vettel, smarting from an impressive finish last time out led for large periods of the race before bursting his tyres, hence being overtaken by Mercedes’ Valteri Bottas. The Igbosere Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos on Monday had Akinkunle Olunloyo, son of former governor old of Oyo State, Dr Victor Olunloyo, brought before it for allegedly defrauding a financial institution to the tune of N40 million. Ex-Governor Olunloyo became governor of Oyo State in October 1983, holding the office briefly until the military regime of Muhammadu Buhari took power in December 1983. He later became a power-broker in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State. 40-year-old Akinkunle Olunloyo, who is a former night club owner, was charged alongside his entertainment firm, Code Media Ltd, by the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Lagos. Olunloyo and his firm are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and fraud. Police Prosecutor Sylvester Azubuike told the court that Olunloyo and others still at large, committed the offences sometime in November 2014 in Lagos. There was panic at a hospital in Ogoja, Cross river state after a pregnant woman gave birth to a baby with a huge head tumour. The incident which happened on April 27th reportedly shocked the hospital officials and those around following the ''rare'' birth. According to Louisa Ushie who shared photos on Facebook, both baby and mother survived the delivery and are doing well.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, April 30, 2018, secured the conviction and sentencing of Dr. Joseph Nwobike, SAN, before Justice Raliat Adebiyi of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, to one year imprisonment for perversion of justice. The convict was prosecuted on an 18-count charge bordering on an attempt to pervert the course of Justice. A heavy clash occurred at the Chief Magistrate court, Mpape, Abuja earlier today between some lawyers and police officers over the detention of two lawyers and relatives of Senator Dino Melaye. Two other persons including a cousin to Melaye and his friend were also arrested during the raid.
