Police Arrest Ex-SARS Officer And Two Others In Connection With Offa Bank Robbery, See Their Faces
The Kwara state police command has arrested three out of the four suspected armed robbers whose photos were released last week in connection with the April 5th Offa bank robbery attack.
The police last week released the images of four out of the many suspected armed robbers that attacked the banks and carted away millions of Nigeria. The images were retrieved from the bank's CCTV. Among the four suspects is Michael Adikwu, a former SARS Officer who was dismissed for fraud.
According to police sources, Adikwu was arrested on Monday by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police, Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and later used as bait to catch two other suspects.
“He used to serve in the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Kwara State Police Command until he got involved in robbery. Investigations revealed that some armed robbers, who robbed and killed an innocent citizen were arrested. Adikwu, then a constable, collected money from them and released them. He was subsequently arrested, tried and dismissed. He was charged to court together with the re-arrested armed robbers. He served three years in prison. How he came out of prison is still a mystery” a police source said
While in prison, Adikwu met with other armed robbers, formed a gang and after his ''release'', they engaged in series of robbery attacks.
The police is however intensifying in its search for the other criminals involved in the bank attack.
