AFCON: Zhakata the 10,000km Traveler from Cape Town to Cairo to be rewarded by CAF President
The undaunted Zimbabwean fan Alvin Zhakata who trekked 10,000km to Egypt would be rewarded by CAF. Aluvah Zhakata’s trekking tale is one that should inspire many never to give up on their pursuit in life.
Zhakata and his friend Botha Msila undertook the
journey from Cape Town in South Africa to Egypt's capital Cairo. Their love for football and the passion to
support their National team made them count not the cost for embarking on such a journey.
They knew not what the 44 days trip would be all about yet they went ahead.
According to Legit.ng, when they got to Kenya Msila could
not get a visa to cross the Kenya-Ethiopian border and was held back at
Nairobi. Luck fell on him to bring his desire to fruition; a South African
journalist opted to assist him to get to Cairo. He paid Msila's flight ticket to Cairo.
Zhakata who had to continue the rest of the journey
without his friend Msila didn’t give up since he was alone. He made it through
the warring and troubled Sudan and a few days ago got to Cairo.
He had given all his time and energy to come and
support his National team but they have already been eliminated. Nevertheless,
his effort wasn’t thrown to waste because CAF president has promised to grant
him a VVIP seat in the final match and also pay for his return ticket home. CAF president Ahmed's gestures of appreciation were met with praise from Zhakata.
Out of joy for the reward alongside the VVIP seat he told BBC the following:
"If you have a passion for something, go for it. Pursue it until you get it. It may be delayed, but delay is not denial - be patient and be strong, because the harder the battle, the sweeter the victory
"For the CAF president to promise me a VVIP treatment on the final match day and also to fly me back to Zimbabwe is something awesome and also incredible, thanks to everyone."
